If it like my one from the 1980s, it will be made of metal. The top will have a incorporated handle on it. One side of the handle will have a pressuse relief valve, and the other side will have a point where you would have been able to fit a gas injector, that took the old sodastream gas cylinder.

I have brought mine back into use, after being in the loft for over ten years. I have replaced the tap with a new one, any of the replacement taps for King Kegs will do. I would have like to have replaced the O ring in the cap, but it is different size from the King Keg top. I have blocked off the inlet and outlet holes in the top with silicon, and fitted a S30 valve on the top.

Use plenty of vaserline and screw the top down tight. I have got a brew in it at the moment, and it is comming out with a good pressure, and the beer has a good head.

Dont pay too much, consider will it be money better spent buying a new King-Keg. If this is your first experience of pressure barrels, it would be sad if you are put off with a failure due to a poor second hand Keg.

they were good sturdy quality as I recall in their day.

mine had the small gas sparklet fitting, not sodastream, so depends on how old it is.

You are correct, you could put a Sparklet fitting on these Kegs if you so wished. I went for the sodastream fitting, as I had one at the time, and the gas was cheaper than sparklets.

There is nothing wrong with these Kegs, I think I paid about £25 for a new one in 1985, from Boots. The main thing is to make them gas tight like any other keg.

Does anyone know where you can get a new O ring for the top, as mine is still using the original.

Someone else on here re-vamped an old boots keg, from memory the 4" cap's fitted them so the O'Ring kit you can buy will fit but just to be safe I'd do a search on boots barrels to double check.

No, it was me.

The 4" KK cap doesn't fit as it has a different thread. However I did modify it to accept an S30 valve. Read about it here

I've got two of these metal kegs in fantastic condition. I've never used them, but I think, and I repeat - think, the rotokeg o rings fit. But as CP suggested, do some homework before buying.

You should be able to get some replies and info from JBK's.
