Hi

I've made a few ales from beer kits but have recently started a cider kit. I think it's called Sommerset cider.

The first question is when I put in the yeast the reaction didn't seem to last too long on top of the brewing bin. I was wondering if this is ok? There is still bubbles coming to the top so I guess it's still fermenting but the reaction hasn't been as big as it is in ale.

The second question is in the instructions it says to barrel the cider and then to bottle it using only lemonade or beer bottles. Does that really matter? I have lots of plastic bottles that have been used for water, coke and lemonade and was wondering whether they could be used? Also if it needs to be beer or lemonade bottles, will old glass beer bottles do and seal them with a cork?

I know lots of questions that are probably dumb to ask but just want to make sure it turns out fine.

Thanks

the yeast head may have subsided.
get a hyrometer and check the reading.

It most likely has done the bulk of the ferment by now by the sounds of it.

For bottling, basically any beer bottle, or PET bottle that previously held fizzy stuff will be ok.

Use crown caps and a capping tool for beer bottles. I can only see corks ending in bottle explosions Laughing
