One x 1kg brewing sugar, not one x 2kg brewing sugar Written By: Duncan Sharrock (12 July 2010) Have experimented in trying to get a reasonable approximation to Hoegaarden from a home brew kit & used this as a base. The recipe that has met with my approval & satisfied the 'testers' is one can of Muntons Connoisseurs Wheat Beer; one x 2kg brewing sugar; 14g of dried curacao orange peel & 30g of freshly ground coriander. Follow the Muntons instructions, but before adding the yeast add the orange peel & ground coriander and stir well. Ferment out as usual & rack off. The orange peel can clog the inlet to the siphon tube, so you may prefer to skim it off first or strain the brew through muslin or a sieve before final racking. I put it straight into a pressure barrel and after a couple of weeks for the secondary fermentation it dispenses with the requisite cloudy appearance. I fully expected the cloudiness to disappear over time, but luckily it does not! I think that the secret to this is the ground coriander - to one of my previous attempts I added whole coriander seeds and the cloudiness disappeared so that the brew ended up looking like a lager (also the taste was not as good as using the ground seeds). Written By: Duncan Sharrock (12 July 2010) This was my first time with a Wheat Beer and while it turned out reasonably well, I wouldn't be a huge fan. I might try an alternative to the added sugar next time - if there is a next time. Reasonable beer but there are better! Written By: Trevor Mchugh (26 October 2008) I have never brewed a wheat beer before, did not dissapoint, very subtle flavour but very moreish!!!!!!!! Written By: Daniel Griffiths (24 August 2008) Head not too good but thin streams of bubbles rising, a "cloudy bright" appearance, very loose sediment. Not a strong taste but nice (subtle?) aftertaste, which seems stronger than the real taste. Head & taste improved with a little age, best when not too cold. RECOMMENDED.
