[Read All Reviews] [Add Your Review] Did what it said on the can, added 1 kilo of dextrose, and brewed up at around 23C, took about 6 days, the bottled to 1 litre PET bottles, waited 2 weeks. It turned out great. Slight Chill Haze, not sure how you avoid that, anyway, it was Ace. Would definately recommend this kit. 23 litres didn't last very long and was very well received by those who tried it. Written By: Stephen Tighe (28 July 2010) this was my first kit i have made and the more you age it the better it gets. The kit is very easy to do. I used normal sugar, Bottled , left for a week to carbonate the then left for another week before giving in and trying some. Very nice. I have just opened some i left for two months and they are even better. lovely taste and clarity. i am just trying Mexican and the European next. Written By: Steven Berry (21 July 2010) I always brew an beer flavoured with elderflowers early summer and I used this as the base this time. I restricted the water content and used brewing sugar. I was a bit dissapointed at first as it was cloudy but a week or so later and it was clear and tastes excellent - the elderflowers really come through and compliment the beer. Only down side is the head does not stay - small point. Written By: Paul Watson (21 July 2010) I have brewed this kit twice now, the first batch as per manufacturers instructions, the second with a few modifications to the recipe.
For my 1st batch I followed the Coopers instructions to the letter and used all recommended ingredients. Fermentation commenced within 24hrs and was very vigourous, eventually finishing after 6 days. I bottled and primed using Coopers carbonation drops. After 2 weeks it was ready to test. The lager cleared very well and kept its head to the bottom of the glass, however, I have to say that I was a little dissapointed with the taste. For me it was very thin tasting with almost no body and had that unmistakable 'homebrew' taste. I left it for a further 6 weeks to cold condition but this had very little effect on the outcome.
For my 2nd batch I decided to tweak the recipe. I used Nottingham yeast instead of the kit yeast, added 1kg of light dry malt and used 1oz of Hallertau hops for aroma. I primed using the Coopers carbonation drops and left for 2 weeks before testing. The result was a far superior batch. Much fresher, a far better body and a lovely aroma. I had my mates come round and try a blind taste test of the 2 batches. All agreed that the 2nd batch was far superior, some even commenting that the 1st batch tasted like p*** (their words not mine) , to be honest, I agreed!!!
I would do this brew again but not with Coopers standard instructions and ingredients. I am going to give this kit 3 stars as I am basing the review on the standard kit and not the tweaked recipe. Written By: David Rennoldson (29 May 2010) Just made my 1st ever brew which happend to be the coopers oz lager, was very very pleased with the results dont know if all homebrews are like this but will try something else but will be trying this again Written By: Alex Jay (16 May 2010)
