Fantastic kit, but be willing to take your time. It's taken 3 week cask at room temp, plus 9 weeks held at 6 degrees c in the beer fridge for this to finally drop nice and clear. In the beginning 4 weeks, it was so yeasty as to be unpleasant (not in taste but in *after effects*) but has improved ever since. I had the good fortune to try both this and the Wherry on cask at the Great British Beer Festival (all in the name of research) and this is by far the better beer. Much better body and mouthfeel. And I'm glad to report that my brew is remarkably close to the brewery's cask version. The only differences were the clarity (I didn't use finings, perhaps they do) and the ABV. Mine ended up at 4.2%, the original is 5%. Other than that, it's darn difficult to tell the difference. A great pint - already planning to brew a second batch.

I think I was expecting to be blown away by this beer, maybe because it is my first two can kit, but sadly I wasn't. It didn't have quite enough body for my taste, and something else was missing. Having said this it was a very good beer and I would not turn down a pint of this on any occasion. I am looking forward to these lasting me through the summer! Next year though, maybe something else...

I made this kit up in the first week of the year. Used the heat belt cos of the really cold weather and the wort fermented out in a week. Gave it 10 days in the king keg with the heat belt again and into the cool after that. Primed it with a mixture of medium and dark spraymalt rather than just sugar as on first tasting there seemed to be a bit missing in the flavour. I expected it to settle fairly quickly but it has taken until now to get a clear pint and that is from a king keg with a top tap. That would put me off bottling this kit unless you set aside a half dozen or so clear bottles. The aroma is superb. The taste is maybe not fully there, depending on how you like your beer, but it is not a million miles away from Youngs Special.

I first tried tha ale about three weeks after bottling and was a little dissapointed. The alcohol content was below what i expected and it had a noticable 'home brew taste'. It was however a very different story for the bottles that i allowed to rest for 7 weeks- they tasted fantastic- just like a good ale from the local pub. I will definately make sure that i use a little more self control a let the next batch rest for at least 6-7 weeks before cracking into them. Simple reflections from a new brewer :)

I am very impressed at the quality of this ale after just 2 weeks in the bottle. It is very drinkable and will appeal to a range of tastes. It is very consistent - colour, taste, head etc. I am getting another batch going in a few days so that I always 'have some in'. A great kit.
